Needless to say, everyone was moving a little slow yesterday morning. By morning, all the White Castle sliders were gone, as was most of the beer. The boys had Egg McMuffins for breakfast, but Ma, Pa, Greg and I went out to breakfast at a little Gahanna joint called the Creekside Cafe, which was delicious! The dudes had a one o’clock tee time, and it turned out there were 13 of them, so Mike was labeled unlucky number 13 and sent to hang with the girls all day. Poor Mike (or maybe lucky Mike – it was crazy hot and humid yesterday, so it was probably miserable on that golf course – not that the boys would admit it!)
We had grand plans to go explore Columbus yesterday when the dudes were golfing. There were four of us at the house – me, Mike, my Mom, and Jean, and we just sat around that table all day talking and catching up. We figure I hadn’t seen Jean since I was four years old, so we had plenty to talk about. In fact, we sat there talking and drinking beer until the boys were done golfing!
After golfing all day, the boys were hungry, so we decided to go to Thurman’s Cafe (the one made famous by Man vs. Food) for dinner. Of course, there were 18 of us, and the entire restaurant only seats 40, so we got there and had to wait a bit for some tables to open up. The bar was open, and the beer was flowing, so the boys were content to wait. (They can hang out anywhere, so long as there’s beer!)
Somehow it worked out that they had two big booths that would fit all the boys towards the back of the restaurant and another table close to the front for the girls. Wouldn’t you know it, all 7 of the boys at one table (including Mike) ordered the massive Thurmanator! (A Thurmanator has a bottom bun, mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickle, banana peppers, 12oz burger, cheddar, bacon, another 12oz burger, sautéed mushrooms and onions, ham, American and mozzarella cheese, and the top bun. Mike got one without a bun, of course.) When those burgers arrived, the whole restaurant was talking about it. They were a good 8 inches tall! The impressive part is that three of them – Kelly, Brian, and RJ – actually finished theirs! (We got more manageable sized burgers, and they were delicious!) Full of burgers and beer, we headed home. We left the boys at Gary’s to party it up for one last night, and we’ll see how they’re feeling eventually.
Today the AZ crew has to head home, and Mike and I get to hit the road again. We’re headed for Cleveland (Cleveland Rocks!) this afternoon, and tomorrow we’ll drive through Detroit. You know how we love broken down buildings, so Detroit should be awesome!
